Principal Software Engineer (Digital Systems) — Hybrid/Onsite in Somerville, MA

About the Role

Formlabs is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to serve as a strategic technical leader in the Systems Department. Reporting to the CIO, you’ll help shape enterprise architecture and technical direction across our digital, financial, and data systems.

In this role, you’ll act as both a builder and a consultant—aligning our technology stack, integrations, and in-house engineering standards to support complex, cross-team initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise architecture efforts for digital systems, integrations, and platform strategy
• Collaborate with Digital, Financial, and Data systems teams to evaluate technical options and trade-offs
• Drive cohesive standards for engineering practices across the Systems organization
• Support enterprise applications, infrastructure, data, and security capabilities for teams company-wide
• Partner with global stakeholders to ensure scalable, maintainable solutions

Requirements

• Strong experience in software engineering with a proven record of technical leadership
• Demonstrated ability to design enterprise architectures and make hard trade-off decisions
• Experience building and integrating complex systems across multiple domains
• Consultative mindset with the ability to influence technical direction across teams
• Comfort operating in a globally distributed environment
