About the Role

The Court of Appeal, First Circuit, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is seeking a Law Clerk/Research Attorney to join the court’s Central Staff Department. This position provides professional legal support to help judges prepare decisions involving civil and criminal writs tied to ongoing litigation and to assist with drafting opinions in criminal appeals.

As part of Central Staff, you’ll work on a broad range of legal and procedural issues, including novel and challenging questions, and you’ll collaborate closely with judges to discuss matters raised in pending writ applications.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research and analyze applicable law
  • Review records and relevant materials for pending matters
  • Draft legal memoranda to support judicial decision-making
  • Assist with preparation of opinions in criminal appeals
