About the Role
Microsoft is seeking a Principal Software Engineering Manager to help lead engineering efforts within Azure Data. You’ll support the team building and operating a unified data platform that enables customers to run end-to-end analytics and AI-ready workloads. This role is focused on driving technical direction, scaling teams, and delivering reliable, high-impact cloud services.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor software engineering teams delivering data platform capabilities across the Azure Data ecosystem
- Set technical and execution strategy for platform features that support unified data experiences
- Partner with product, program, and architecture stakeholders to plan roadmaps and ensure delivery quality
- Drive engineering best practices around reliability, scalability, and performance
- Coach managers and engineers to improve collaboration, delivery, and operational excellence
Requirements
- Proven experience leading engineering teams in large-scale cloud or distributed systems
- Strong background in software engineering fundamentals and system design
- Experience working with data platforms and related technologies (e.g., data integration, analytics, messaging, real-time processing)
- Track record of influencing technical decisions and delivering complex projects
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to align cross-functional partners
