About the Role
Scout Motors is building the next chapter of an iconic American brand—bringing it to life with electrification, digital experiences, and American innovation. We’re seeking a Senior Staff Backend Software Engineer to help design and deliver reliable backend systems that power our products and customer experiences.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and improve backend services and APIs at scale
- Lead technical direction for complex systems, setting best practices for architecture, reliability, and performance
- Partner with product, frontend, and platform teams to deliver end-to-end features
- Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, testing strategies, and operational readiness
- Contribute to system observability, monitoring, and incident response
Requirements
- Strong experience building backend systems (APIs, services, data flows)
- Proficiency with modern backend languages and frameworks (e.g., Java, Go, Python, or similar)
- Hands-on experience with databases and data modeling
- Ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor engineers
- Comfort working in a fast-moving environment with high standards for quality
