About the Role
Scout Motors is building the next generation of rugged, American-made vehicles—combining electrification, digitization, and innovation. We’re looking for a Staff Backend Software Engineer to help design and deliver reliable backend services that power our platforms and customer experiences.
Responsibilities
- Own backend architecture and drive technical decisions for core services
- Design, build, and maintain scalable APIs and data pipelines
- Collaborate with product, frontend, and platform teams to deliver end-to-end features
- Improve reliability through monitoring, debugging, and performance optimization
- Mentor engineers and raise the bar on engineering practices and code quality
Requirements
- Strong experience building production backend systems
- Proficiency with backend languages and frameworks (e.g., Java, Go, Python, or similar)
- Experience with databases and data modeling (SQL and/or NoSQL)
- Hands-on knowledge of API design, distributed systems, and system reliability
- Ability to lead through influence—mentoring and guiding technical execution
