About the Role
Databricks’ Applied AI team builds GenAI-powered capabilities that power products used by hundreds of thousands of customers every day. You’ll help advance systems behind offerings such as Databricks Assistant, AI/BI Genie, and Agent Bricks—improving areas like LLM quality, reliability, and usefulness.
As a Staff Machine Learning Engineer, you’ll take on complex technical challenges across the GenAI lifecycle, working closely with product teams to bring next-generation features to market.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize machine learning systems for GenAI applications
- Improve model performance for tasks such as code suggestion, error detection/correction, and text-to-SQL
- Build or enhance components for knowledge QA and automated pipeline generation
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate requirements into scalable ML solutions
- Drive experimentation, evaluation, and iteration to raise quality and reliability
Requirements
- Strong background in machine learning with hands-on experience building production ML systems
- Experience working with LLMs and/or GenAI workflows (training, fine-tuning, evaluation, or serving)
- Proficiency with modern ML engineering practices and tooling
- Ability to tackle ambiguous, high-impact technical problems end-to-end
- Clear communication and strong collaboration skills across cross-functional teams
