About the Role
Fehr & Peers is seeking an Application Development Manager to lead a small, high-impact team within our IT organization. In this player-coach role, you’ll help shape how software is designed, reviewed, secured, and maintained—while still contributing hands-on by writing code and solving complex technical issues.
Your team will build and support applications used across the firm, and at times tools that help deliver transportation planning and engineering work for clients.
Responsibilities
- Lead a three-person application development team within a broader 11-person IT group
- Serve as a player-coach: write code, mentor developers, and guide technical decisions
- Design, build, and maintain internal applications, integrations, dashboards, and data tools
- Establish and improve development workflows for review, security, testing, and ongoing maintenance
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand needs and translate them into scalable solutions
- Troubleshoot production and application issues and drive continuous improvements
Requirements
- Experience leading application development (team leadership and/or technical ownership)
- Strong hands-on software development skills
- Proficiency with building integrations and data-driven applications (dashboards, analysis tools, or similar)
- Ability to mentor engineers and provide clear guidance on architecture, code quality, and best practices
- Knowledge of secure software development practices and review processes
