About the Role
Scout Motors is building the next generation of rugged, American-made vehicles—by electrifying, digitizing, and innovating with a strong respect for customers and communities. We’re seeking a Staff Backend Software Engineer to help design and deliver reliable backend systems that power our products and platforms.
Responsibilities
- Own backend architecture and drive technical decisions across services
- Design, build, and maintain scalable APIs and data-driven systems
- Improve reliability, performance, and observability across the backend stack
- Partner with product, frontend, and infrastructure teams to deliver end-to-end features
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and best practices
Requirements
- Significant backend engineering experience building production systems
- Strong proficiency with at least one backend language (e.g., Java, Go, Python, or similar)
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases and data modeling
- Proven skills in API design, distributed systems concepts, and performance tuning
- Comfort working with cloud infrastructure and modern deployment practices
