About the Role
The Hamilton Spectator is hiring a one-year reporter journalism intern for our digital-first newsroom. This 12-month, temp full-time internship is built to help you grow your reporting skills through real newsroom work and create a portfolio of original stories.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with editors and full-time staff to publish accurate, high-quality journalism for local audiences
- Cover the community firsthand by attending events, reporting on breaking news, and conducting in-person interviews
- Participate in a structured training program to strengthen reporting and research skills
- Support story development through both virtual participation and on-the-ground assignments
Requirements
- Strong interest in journalism and community-focused storytelling
- Ability to travel to the office and assignments as needed
- Comfort working in a hybrid environment and contributing both independently and with a team
- Willingness to live in or near the community to support on-site coverage
