About the Role
CarGurus is looking for a Principal AI Engineer to help build and scale AI solutions that improve the automotive shopping experience. You’ll work on systems that support trust, transparency, and end-to-end customer journeys—from discovery through purchase and delivery.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy advanced AI solutions to solve high-impact business problems
- Lead technical direction for AI architecture, modeling approaches, and production readiness
- Partner with product, engineering, and data teams to translate requirements into scalable AI capabilities
- Improve model performance through experimentation, evaluation, and continuous learning
- Ensure responsible engineering practices, including reliability, monitoring, and quality controls
Requirements
- Strong experience building AI/ML systems in production environments
- Expertise in modern ML techniques and AI engineering best practices
- Proficiency with programming and data/ML tooling relevant to large-scale applications
- Ability to lead complex technical efforts and mentor teammates through technical guidance
- Strong problem-solving skills and a track record of delivering measurable outcomes
