About the Role
Databricks is seeking a Principal AI Research Scientist and Research Director to lead AI Scaling efforts focused on improving the efficiency of large language model training and inference. In this role, you’ll help advance techniques that enable next-generation performance while supporting real-world deployment needs.
Responsibilities
- Drive research direction for AI scaling initiatives across training and inference efficiency
- Develop and evaluate novel methods for large language model optimization
- Collaborate with cross-functional research and engineering teams to translate breakthroughs into scalable solutions
- Publish and present research findings, and contribute to technical strategy for the team
- Mentor researchers and guide technical execution within the scaling research roadmap
Requirements
- Strong background in machine learning and large language models, with a focus on efficiency and scaling
- Experience with LLM training/inference optimization techniques (e.g., systems-aware research)
- Proficiency in relevant programming and research tooling (commonly Python and ML frameworks)
- Demonstrated ability to lead research projects and influence technical roadmaps
- Track record of impactful publications, patents, or equivalent research contributions
