About the Role
Theseus is a defense technology company building software that provides reliable, hard-to-jam positioning without relying on traditional GPS. Our localization system fuses satellite data, onboard sensors, and camera inputs (EO/IR) to generate accurate positioning that can run on compact compute such as Raspberry Pi–class hardware.
We’re scaling rapidly and expect strong product growth, with thousands of licenses planned. This role will help us strengthen our software foundation, addressing technical debt in our map generation backend and companion application while maintaining the high standards of our deployment and QA for core localization algorithms.
Responsibilities
- Lead design and implementation of backend and application improvements to reduce technical debt
- Own key components of the map generation backend and companion app architecture
- Collaborate with embedded localization and drone testing/integration teams to improve end-to-end performance
- Improve reliability, maintainability, and performance of systems that support large-scale deployments
- Contribute to engineering best practices around testing, CI/CD, and quality
Requirements
- Proven experience as a senior software engineer with progression to Staff-level impact
- Strong backend and systems programming skills (language/framework experience relevant to your background)
- Experience working with complex, performance-sensitive applications and data pipelines
- Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment with ambiguous requirements and existing technical debt
- Ability to collaborate across teams, translating product needs into robust engineering plans
Benefits
- Work on mission-critical technology used in challenging environments
- Opportunity to scale a product with high demand and real-world usage
- Collaborate with strong embedded localization and drone testing/integration teams
