About the Role
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking an Applied AI Technical Lead & Strategic Analyst to guide applied AI research in critical technology areas. In this role, you will lead technical efforts that support cybersecurity and advanced manufacturing—especially applications relevant to critical infrastructure.
This position is filled through direct-hire authority to recruit new talent for occupations where NIST faces a severe shortage of candidates.
Responsibilities
- Lead NIST ITL applied AI initiatives with a focus on trustworthy AI for cybersecurity and advanced manufacturing
- Provide strategic technical analysis and oversight to ensure research aligns with mission needs
- Serve as a technical leader for research in critical and emerging technologies
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to transition AI technologies into real-world use
- Conduct international technical oversight and coordinate technical guidance across relevant efforts
- Research and develop solutions to address obstacles in applied AI implementation
Requirements
- Demonstrated leadership in applied AI research and development
- Strong background in trustworthy AI concepts and practices
- Experience applying AI to cybersecurity and/or advanced manufacturing contexts
- Ability to provide strategic analysis and technical direction for complex research efforts
- Track record of partnering and technology transition to stakeholders
- Strong communication skills for technical leadership and cross-team collaboration
