About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer to join a fast-growing UK-regulated bank subsidiary. This pivotal executive leadership role reports directly to the CEO and holds the SMF24 Chief Operations Function under the Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SM&CR). You’ll help shape operational strategy, strengthen resilience, and support long-term growth while ensuring strong governance and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the approved SMF24 Chief Operations Function holder, fulfilling all PRA and FCA expectations
- Lead end-to-end operational oversight, ensuring processes, controls, and capabilities align with the firm’s risk appetite
- Drive operational excellence through continuous improvement, simplification, and innovation
- Provide leadership and governance for the Operational Middle Office and related operational functions
- Own the Operational Resilience Framework, including IBS identification and impact tolerances
- Sponsor scenario testing, operational mapping, remediation programmes, and crisis/BCP readiness
- Ensure effective reporting and insight to Executive and Board-level stakeholders
- Oversee outsourcing and third-party relationships, including service performance, resilience, and regulatory alignment
- Sponsor technology-enabled transformation, ensuring operational readiness and control integrity during change
- Champion a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high standards of conduct and customer focus
Requirements
- Extensive senior leadership experience in banking operations within a UK-regulated financial institution
- Strong understanding of PRA/FCA regulatory frameworks, including SM&CR, operational resilience, outsourcing rules, and conduct expectations
- Demonstrable experience performing or directly supporting an SMF24 role
- Proven expertise in operational resilience, business continuity, crisis management, and operational process oversight
- Track record managing an Operational Middle Office
- Experience engaging with IT projects, technology-enabled change, and operational transformation
- Ability to manage operational risk within the first line of defence
- Board-level governance and committee experience, with excellent stakeholder management
- Strong analytical and strategic planning skills, paired with excellent communication
