About the Role
4DMT is seeking an Executive Director to lead Intellectual Property (IP) strategy and execution for a late-stage biotechnology organization focused on durable, disease-targeted therapeutics. This role will help protect and advance our innovation pipeline to support long-term clinical and commercial success.
Responsibilities
- Own and drive the IP strategy across the organization, aligning patent and IP priorities with R&D goals
- Oversee invention capture and collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify patentable opportunities
- Manage outside counsel and patent prosecution activities, including key filings, office actions, and strategy updates
- Support licensing, partnerships, and technology transfer initiatives by evaluating IP value and risks
- Monitor relevant IP landscapes and competitor activity to inform strategy and reduce infringement exposure
- Provide guidance on freedom-to-operate (FTO) considerations and risk mitigation
Requirements
- Significant experience leading IP strategy in a biotechnology or life sciences environment
- Strong knowledge of patent prosecution, portfolio management, and IP lifecycle decision-making
- Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with R&D, legal, and business stakeholders
- Experience working with external IP counsel and managing complex, time-sensitive filings
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate IP concepts for non-legal audiences
