About the Role
MatX is building a compute platform for AGI, delivering vertically integrated solutions spanning hardware and software. We’re looking for a hands-on engineering leader to lead our Kernel team—setting technical direction, mentoring engineers, and contributing directly through high-performance kernel development for specialized AI hardware.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of kernel engineers and software developers
- Set technical strategy and execute on kernel architecture and performance goals
- Design and optimize compute kernels that interface with AI hardware
- Partner with the ML team to improve training/inference throughput and diagnostic tooling
- Collaborate with hardware teams on co-design for next-generation AI architectures
Requirements
- Strong experience designing performance-critical compute kernels
- Proven leadership experience mentoring engineers and driving technical direction
- Hands-on ability to build and iterate on systems that integrate with specialized hardware
- Experience working cross-functionally with ML and hardware stakeholders
