About the Role
Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team builds and evolves the infrastructure that powers the Microsoft Cloud. As a Principal Datacenter Mechanical Engineer in the CTO Office, you’ll lead the design, development, and validation of data center mechanical solutions that enhance performance, efficiency, and reliability.
You’ll partner with engineers, researchers, and business stakeholders to translate customer needs into innovative, high-quality outcomes. You’ll also work closely with external vendors and suppliers to ensure alignment with Microsoft standards and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical engineering efforts for new data center products and solutions across the lifecycle
- Design, develop, and test mechanical systems to improve reliability, efficiency, and performance
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify requirements and define technical approaches
- Partner with external vendors and suppliers to validate designs, specifications, and deliverables
- Drive continuous improvement by applying lessons learned from deployments and operations
Requirements
- Advanced experience in datacenter or mission-critical mechanical engineering
- Proven ability to design and validate mechanical systems through analysis, testing, and iteration
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with engineering and business partners
- Experience working with vendors/suppliers and managing technical alignment to standards
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders
