About the Role
Microsoft Silicon and Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) builds the infrastructure and foundational technologies that power Microsoft’s Intelligent Cloud mission. Within SCHIE, the Firmware CoE works on validating firmware for cloud and data center hardware that supports services used worldwide.
This role is for a Principal Firmware Validation Engineer who will help ensure new hardware and firmware can be deployed on schedule, at scale, with high quality and strong reliability—while keeping total cost in mind.
Responsibilities
- Lead firmware validation strategy across platforms and releases for cloud hardware infrastructure
- Define validation plans, test approaches, and quality metrics for high-volume deployments
- Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions for firmware defects and interoperability issues
- Partner with hardware, software, and systems teams to ensure test coverage and readiness for production
- Develop and improve validation automation and tooling to increase efficiency and repeatability
- Mentor engineers and influence best practices within the firmware validation community
Requirements
- Deep experience in firmware validation, verification, and test methodologies
- Strong understanding of embedded systems, low-level debugging, and hardware/firmware interactions
- Proficiency with scripting and automation to build or enhance test workflows
- Experience working with complex platforms and large-scale release processes
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to lead technical investigations
- Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional engineering teams
