About the Role
The Bing Places team builds intelligence that powers local search experiences used by millions of people every day. We’re looking for a Senior Applied Scientist to design, build, and ship advanced AI and machine learning solutions that improve the quality and trustworthiness of local search at scale.
Responsibilities
- Work on high-impact, technically challenging problems in local search intelligence
- Own projects end to end, from problem framing and data analysis to model experimentation and production deployment
- Develop and validate AI/ML solutions such as LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), learning-to-rank, and entity understanding
- Collaborate with engineering and product partners to experiment, iterate, and ship models that perform reliably at Microsoft scale
Requirements
- Strong applied research background in machine learning and AI
- Experience building and evaluating ML systems, including experimentation and model deployment
- Practical knowledge of modern NLP approaches (e.g., LLMs, RAG) and ranking or retrieval methods
- Ability to translate real-world requirements into measurable model objectives
