About the Role
Waymo is building the Waymo Driver—the world’s most experienced driver—to improve mobility while making roads safer. In Hardware Engineering, we design and refine the systems that serve as the eyes and ears of our autonomous driving technology, integrating hardware and software across a variety of vehicle platforms.
As a Senior Motion Systems Engineer focused on actuators, you’ll help develop motion hardware that supports reliable operation in real-world driving conditions and simulation-driven validation.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and iterate actuator and motion system solutions for vehicle applications
- Collaborate across electrical, mechanical, software, and reliability teams to deliver integrated hardware
- Own technical execution from requirements through prototyping, testing, and validation
- Analyze system performance, identify failure modes, and drive design improvements
- Support verification activities, including test planning, data review, and root-cause analysis
- Contribute to documentation, design reviews, and continuous engineering improvements
Requirements
- Experience designing motion systems or actuator subsystems for electromechanical hardware
- Strong understanding of control, actuation principles, and electromechanical system behavior
- Proficiency with engineering analysis and measurement to evaluate performance and reliability
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical tradeoffs
- Experience with prototyping, testing, and iterative hardware development
Benefits
- Opportunity to work on autonomous driving technology with real-world impact
- Collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment
- Growth through hands-on development, testing, and system-level ownership
