About the Role
Redwood Materials is seeking a Staff Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Electrical Design Engineer to join our EPC team. In this role, you’ll help design scalable, high-performance energy storage infrastructure for utility-scale and distributed applications—supporting the energy transition with domestically produced battery materials.
Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design activities for BESS projects across utility-scale and distributed use cases
- Develop and review electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, and related design documentation
- Coordinate with EPC, engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and code requirements
- Support engineering reviews and technical problem-solving throughout project phases
- Contribute to design standardization and continuous improvement for repeatable, scalable deployments
Requirements
- Experience performing electrical design work for energy storage systems, power systems, or related industrial projects
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and applicable standards for BESS/PV/power systems
- Proficiency creating and interpreting electrical design documentation (e.g., one-lines, schematics, design calculations)
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-moving EPC environment
- Strong attention to detail, documentation quality, and safety-minded engineering practices
