About the Role
Toast is looking for a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to provide technical leadership on our ML Platform team. You’ll help design and scale the infrastructure that powers machine learning across Toast, enabling models used for personalization, forecasting, fraud detection, search, and other AI-driven experiences for restaurants and local businesses.
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture and evolution of ML platform systems such as the feature store, model hosting, and serving
- Own and improve the experimentation platform and training pipelines that support reliable model iteration
- Collaborate with ML engineers and data scientists to ensure tooling meets production needs
- Drive best practices for reliability, performance, and operational excellence across ML workflows
- Mentor engineers and partner cross-functionally to deliver high-impact improvements
Requirements
- Strong experience building and operating machine learning infrastructure in production
- Proficiency with model serving, data/feature pipelines, and experimentation frameworks
- Solid software engineering fundamentals with a focus on scalability and maintainability
- Experience working with ML systems used for personalization, ranking/search, forecasting, or fraud detection is a plus
- Ability to lead technical decisions and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical partners
