About the Role
PLOS is a nonprofit, open-access publisher helping researchers advance science and medicine by improving how research is communicated. As the Publishing Operations Vendor Manager, you’ll ensure our publishing workflows are supported by a reliable, high-performing network of external partners.
This fully remote role focuses on building vendor strategy across the publishing lifecycle, aligning supplier capabilities with organizational needs, and strengthening operational resilience through quality, scalability, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Own vendor strategy across the publishing lifecycle, ensuring partners meet evolving operational requirements
- Oversee procurement and contracting activities, including vendor selection, onboarding, and ongoing performance management
- Develop and drive best practices for vendor management to improve quality, delivery, and efficiency
- Foster strong cross-functional relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen scalability and long-term operational resilience
Requirements
- Experience managing external vendors and partner relationships, ideally within publishing, technology operations, or similar environments
- Strong procurement and contracting knowledge, including vendor onboarding and performance oversight
- Ability to translate operational needs into clear vendor requirements and measurable expectations
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to continuous improvement
