About the Role
Waterloo Region Record is looking for a one-year reporter journalism intern to join our digital-first newsroom. This 12-month, temporary full-time opportunity is built to help you develop real reporting experience, strengthen your portfolio, and learn from experienced editors and staff.
You’ll work in a hybrid environment, combining work from home with time spent in the community. To support assignments and on-the-ground coverage, interns are expected to live in or near the community.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with editors and full-time team members to create original, accurate, and trustworthy journalism
- Cover breaking news and community events by attending in person and conducting interviews on-site
- Contribute to reporting and research through an established training program
- Join virtual and in-person team meetings and participate actively in newsroom discussions
Requirements
- Strong interest in journalism and community reporting
- Ability to travel locally for assignments and event coverage
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, digital-first newsroom environment
- Strong curiosity and willingness to learn through feedback
